Oneonta’s Hometown 4th of July Festival 2020 Cancelled
In a Facebook message Tuesday afternoon, it was announced that the annual Hometown 4th of July fesitival has been cancelled. Carol Mandigo, chair of the festival committee said:
"Dear Friends,
It is with great sadness the Board of First Night Oneonta is announcing the cancellation of the Hometown 4th of July Festival in Neahwa Park due to COVID 19. We were unable to get the permits from the NYS Health Department that we needed to hold a mass gathering in the park.
We are hoping that when the social distancing requirements are relaxed and it is safe for families to gather that we will be able to hold a smaller festival in honor of our community's wonderful essential workers who have risked their health and the health of their loved ones to serve us all during this pandemic.
The FIrst Night committee is not taking the summer off. We are helping LEAF, Inc. to promote and organize The Great Otsego Outdoor Challenge and sometime soon we will host a second Super Smash Brothers Play at Home Video Game Tournament. See links below:
First Night is also discussing a collaboration with the City of Oneonta to help provide entertainment on Main Street during the reopening of our local businesses.
Thank you all so much for your support and we look forward to seeing everyone at the next possible opportunity!"
