Oneonta Court Judge Bernier Announces Retirement
Lucy P. Bernier, as the City of Oneonta's first female court judge, has announced that after 18 years of service on the bench, she will retire at the end of this year when her term expires.
Judge Bernier states, “It has been an honor and privilege to serve the community as judge, and I am grateful for the trust the people of Oneonta placed in me. I’ve worked hard to make sure each person who came before me was accorded their legal and constitutional rights, that they were treated respectfully and fairly, and that fair and just decisions were rendered”.
Her appointment for the city began in 2004 under Mayor Kim Muller and continued when she was re-elected in 2015 for another six-year term. Before that she had private law practice with Pantaleoni & Bernier and served from 1992-1997 as Assistant District Attorney for Otsego County under the Hon. Michael V. Coccoma. Bernier also served as Oneonta City Prosecutor from 1998 to 2003 and was the first woman in that position.
