NYS County Clerks Want DMV Updates!

County clerks across New York are pushing state legislation that would require updated photos on driver's licenses and a bigger share of motor vehicle transaction fees for the counties. The state now keeps 87.3 percent of revenue collected when transactions are processed at a local Department of Motor Vehicle office. St. Lawrence County Clerk Mary Lou Rupp tells the Watertown Daily Times that New York and Nevada are the only two states that don't require motorists to have an updated picture on their licenses. She said outdated photos defeat the purpose of using a driver's license to verify identification. The two DMV issues were top priorities identified at the annual county clerks conference earlier this month in Albany.
