NY State Looking At Flexible School Scheduling
Could there be a change in the number of days kids spend in the classroom? It’s possible according to New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia. Officials are looking at adding some flexibility to class scheduling such as removing the mandatory class start date of September 1st and counting instructional time in hours, not days. Currently a half-day of classes doesn’t count toward the minimum requirements. State aid is reduced to districts who don’t meet the minimum 180-day school-year requirement.
