Major Water Main Break In The City Of Oneonta
As many as a dozen emergency workers responded to a major water main break Friday at the intersection of West and Clinton Streets in the City of Oneonta. There is no estimate of how many customers may have been affected or when repairs can be completed.
“The break is unrelated to the reconstruction work going on West Street,” Chris Yacobucci, Oneonta’s Public Works Director, said in a CNY News interview.
Late Friday afternoon local repair crews were waiting for experts from Dig Safely New York, an organization that can identify areas under the street where it is safe to excavate and places where it may be dangerous. There are several utility systems including water, sewer and natural gas in the area.
“We don’t know yet what caused the water main to break,” Yacobucci said.
The Oneonta Police Department set up detours on West and Clinton Streets in an effort to keep vehicles away from the work zone.
