New York Campuses Receive $15M for EV Charging Stations
Federal funds totaling $15 million will be designated for the installation of 350 electric vehicle charging stations at State University of New York (SUNY) campuses, as announced by U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.
This initiative is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant Program, which is a component of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act that was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2021.
Supporting Sustainable Transportation
The New York senators emphasized that this substantial funding will play a crucial role in lowering air pollution and meeting the increasing demand for electric vehicle (EV) usage and that SUNY campuses are set to benefit from the installation of both fast chargers and Level 2 chargers.
The Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program is overseeing the administration of $1.25 billion for a total of $2.5 billion over five years for EV infrastructure, underscoring the significance of this investment in sustainable transportation.
