At the scene were two marked State Police vehicles, with their emergency lights activated. Trooper Bailey Martin was outside her marked patrol vehicle, consulting with another New York State trooper at the scene of the property damage accident.

During the investigation, New York State Police reported that an SUV was traveling eastbound on State Route 458, approaching the intersection.

The driver of the SUV told troopers that he failed to observe the posted stop sign due to sunlight impairing his vision. He attempted to stop and turn onto State Route 30, but was unsuccessful, as the SUV ended up striking Trooper Martin and colliding with her patrol vehicle.

Trooper Martin was transported to a local hospital, as she sustained non-life-threatening injuries. There were three occupants in the SUV along with the driver.  Some of the occupants of the SUV also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
