Summertime is concert time. So many choices for concerts regionally and throughout New York and Pennsylvania.

I'm not sure how many think about this, but as someone who has entertained (mobile DJ) outside in the heat of summer, it can be a challenge. So I must imagine performing in a band or other outdoor performance can be especially challenging when the humidity is cranked up and the sun is beating down on you in the 80s and 90s.

Then there are the other weather-related issues that can affect a live outdoor performance. So it is not a surprise to hear that the Steve Miller Band has cancelled their summer tour dates this year (2025). The band posted the following on X:

Think about it. Stever Miller is 81. At that age, who wants to sweat it out in oppressive heat, with the stage lights adding to that discomfort? I wouldn't.

This year's tour had 31 dates scheduled, including The New York State Fair and Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in August. Several shows were scheduled for New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

According to a story from the Associated Press:

Scientists say climate change is fueling extreme weather, causing storms to unleash more rain and sending temperatures soaring to dangerous heights, making it harder to plan outdoor summer events. - Associated Press

Will we see this happen again with other outdoor acts cancelling due to extreme weather? Time will tell. What are your thoughts?
