Trial and Sentencing

Ganesh "Remy" Ramsaran had this to say to Dateline immediately following his arrest: “I am scared to my death that they are going to send me to jail or prison, but here’s the thing. I have truth on my side. I did nothing wrong. I did nothing. I would never harm my wife”.

Despite his public statements of innocence, a jury did not see things the same way, and ultimately found him guilty of second degree murder in the death of Jennifer Ramsaran. at that time, he was sentenced to 25 years to life behind bars.

But Wait, There's More

In 2015, another crime with Remy attached to it came to light. In December of that year, Remy plead guilty to a bribery charge. He had offered a prison guard a sum of $100,000 for help escaping prison. In February of 2016, he was given another 5 to 15 years in prison for the offense.

At the time, Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride told Spectrum News: "I make sure, without the expense of the trial, I've got a conviction for the bribery, it will be on his record and after what happened in Clinton and Dannemora, we want to make sure that people who are convicted of murder stay behind bars where they belong". Ramsaran waived his right to appeal the bribery conviction, and at the time was appealing his murder conviction.

But this is certainly not where the story ends. What would come to light in terms of attorney misbehavior and the possibility of a new trial would put yet another strange twist on to this case. Join us tomorrow for the final part in this shocking series.
