Oneonta, New York’s Nags Bar and Kitchen Nails It
Back in the day, when people mentioned bar food, you might think of potato skins, fries, and mozzarella sticks, foods meant to soak up the booze that you were primarily there for. Times have changed, and many bars have elevated their food offerings making them much more interesting. Nags Bar & Kitchen in Oneonta is a perfect example of that concept.
Katie, the spot's bar manager joined me on air today sharing a wide range of their dishes.
Elote is grilled corn on the cob slathered in a mayo cream sauce and garnished with chili powder, cheese and lime. Nags' take on the dish, their creamy elote dip is a great representation of all the associated flavors. Blistered Mexican street corn, onions, peppers, mild jalepeños, white queso & parmesan are served hot with corn tortillas or warm flat bread.
Don't miss their Mongolian BBQ bowl. It's packed with udon noodles, peppers, green onions, mushrooms, spicy chicken, chicken bone broth, and dark chilli drizzle. This unassuming dish packs a spicy punch that creeps up on you and intensifies as you eat it.
Then there's the burgers. Their standard half pound Angus beef patty can be topped with just about anything. The Nags Burger 2.0 I tasted was topped with Korean bulgogi beef and pineapple slaw. I'm a burger snob and this was an absolute legend of a burger.
Nags Bar & Kitchen is also a great place for those who have dietary restrictions or follow a vegan or vegetarian diet. Right now on their summer menu is a strawberry pecan salad. The salad is great, but the star of that show is the white wine vinaigrette dressing. Fill a pool with it, and I'm diving in.
