Local United Way Offices Merge, Golf Fundraiser Upcoming
Local United Way offices have merged to form one entity, United Way of Mid Rural New York. The new organization serves Chenango, Otsego, Delaware, and Madison counties. Currently, they are preparing to kick off their fall fundraising campaign. The driving principle of the campaign is that funds raised locally stay in the local area.
2023 Fundraising Campaign
This year, the campaign's goal has been set at $600,000. Broken down, $425,000 will be allotted to Chenango County, $80,000 to Otsego County, $80,000 to Madison County, and $15,000 to Delaware County. These goals were set based on the amounts of funds historically raised in those communities. The funds raised during the fall 2023 campaign will be distributed via a volunteer led allocation process in late January of 2024. Donors are able to choose which county they'd like to receive their funds.
Donations Are Important to the Local Community
The United Way invests campaign funds in things that impact the community such as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, the Dental Task Force, the Micro Loan Program, and the 2-1-1 Information and Referral Hotline.
Golf Tournament Upcoming
After a successful Cornhole Tournament on August 19th that raised $6,500 for Chenango County, United Way of Mid Rural New York has their sights set on a captain and crew style golf tournament. To be held at the Oneonta Country Club on Friday, September 15th, funds raised will go towards the Otsego County campaign.
A Word From the Executive Director
“I am excited about this year’s campaign. Now that we are a four-county United Way, we are able to do so much more to help so many more people in need. This past spring, we met with several local company leaders and business owners and the general feeling within the community is that we are beginning to see some economic improvement in our region. Folks are going back to the workplace and have been very excited about the new role that the United Way is taking in the community. I think it will be a great fundraising season and a great chance to make many new relationships within the community.” - Elizabeth Monaco, Executive Director
