Hometown Throwdown: Makin’ it Happen in Morris, New York
Named after General Jacob Morris, the town that bears his name is located at the western border of Otsego County. According to the 2010 census, the population was just over 1,800 and is located northwest of Oneonta.
Usually, when people think of Morris, they think of the Otsego County Fair. There's a whole lot more to discover in the town, with some things that might just surprise you.
Weaver's Farm Market
Weaver's Farm Market is an Amish family owned affair that's well worth the drive from wherever you are. If it comes from a farm, you'll find it at Weavers. Come for the farm fresh produce, stay for the incredible meats and cheeses. The staff is wonderfully personable, and will tell you all about Amish culture and customs.
The Gatehouse
The Gatehouse is a super cute coffee shop and retail store located on Main Street in Morris. It's the kind of place you can roll up to, get yourself a cuppa, and sit and enjoy while reading a book or the day's news. When you're done sipping check out their gourmet items and more.
Linn Tractors
Linn tractors were absolute beasts, and the perfect solution to the terrible winters of Upstate New York. They're an important part of Morris' history as they were manufactured there from 1916 to 1952. These tank/truck looking vehicles were once mainstays of snowy season highway departments. I'd like to use one as a winter daily driver!
The Otsego County Fair
If you live in Otsego County, you've most likely been to the Morris for the annual county fair. Held each summer, it's firmly a rural affair, offering livestock shows, vendors upon vendors, food and all kinds of live entertainment.
