While it seems like anyone can be an internet celebrity nowadays, gaining and maintaining popular online status isn’t as easy as you might think. For some people, it may take years of dedication and hard work to amass the following they deserve. For others, all it takes is one great video or meme that goes viral and their life changes overnight (albeit potentially uncomfortably). No matter what level of online popularity you hope to achieve, there are some basic steps you can take to get yourself on the path toward going viral online.

'How To' videos are great. I watch them all of time. However, they don't go viral.

When you’re looking for fame online, what matters most is how many people you reach. And one of our most effective ways of getting noticed is with video—it’s quick, easy, and universally accessible. So let’s talk about two things that can help your online popularity skyrocket: dancing and being great at something. Both are incredibly simple ingredients that many viral videos have in common. What can you learn from their commonalities? And how can they work for you?

I doubt you can.  Unless you've got mad video editing skills like in the video that caught my eye today.

Somebody inserted a giant house cat into scenes from "Jurassic Park".  It's a kitty instead of a menacing T-Rex . . . and somehow, it's just as frightening.

Good luck finding anything cuter or more scary than this today.

DIY Mc

Everyone is rejoicing that the McRib is back! You can hear the chanting from down the block. Everyone is washing their hands a little bit more due to the bbq sauce residue and it's wonderful.

All is right with the world.

But it isn't always like this. The McRib will leave soon and we'll have to settle for a McChicken or a Double Quarter Pounder like a peasant. Life isn't fair. We know this.

However, my cousin Steve has figured out a way to beat the system.

He's gotten his hands dirty and experimented so we don't have to. He has perfected the DIY McRib!

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
