According to New York's Secretary of State Robert J Rodriguez,

Back-to-school shopping is the second largest spending event for parents, after the holidays, which makes it critically important for parents to know how to safeguard against scams to protect their privacy and finances.

Financial safety isn't the only big concern. Schools have begun to lean more heavily on technology which is why it's so important, more now than ever before, for parents to protect their children's identity and privacy. Secretary of State Rodriguez says,
