Hayley Williams —Paramore frontwoman, new solo artist and, most recently, supreme defender of rock 'n' roll — made a plea to the Recording Academy to air at least one rock category during the televised Grammys.

In case you weren't aware, the The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards happened last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles with Alicia Keys on hosting duties.

The main broadcast aired on CBS, but, as has happened in recent years, all of the rock category winners were announced during the pre-televised segment of the Grammy Awards. These are streamed on Grammy.com and — as suggested by their name — happen before the actual show that everyone watches on prime time TV.

They give out about a million Grammys and the show is already about 1,000 hours long (we're exaggerating in case you can't tell, but it's a lot), so we understand that they can't put everything in the main show. But, Williams makes a pretty good case for rock.

It all started when the singer tweeted that she wasn't able to watch the show, but she had to seek out Billie Eilish's performance because she "knew this bish was gonna serve talent and delicious, buttery vox."

In her next tweet she congratulated Cage The Elephant on their win for Best Rock Album before making her request.

"Can we get even just one Rock category televised next year, @RecordingAcad? Rock and Alternative music are vital(!) and relevant(!!!) and the youths need to see it on the TV," she said in the tweet.

The youths, in fact, do need to see it.

Is that too much to ask? We don't think so. Plus, she did ask very nicely.

See her tweets below.

Paramore won the 2014 Grammy for Best Rock song for "Aint It Fun." They were nominated in 2007 for Best New Artist, but lost to Amy Winehouse (see photo below). They also were nominated for the 2011 Best Pop Performance By A Duo or Group award for "The Only Exception," which was beat by a live version of Train's "Hey, Soul Sister."

Just last week Williams released her very first solo track, "Simmer," which is part of her previously announced Petals for Armor project due out May 8. hear our thoughts on Hayley's comeback on this week's podcast.
