US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for more money to help research, control, and get rid of the emerald ash borer. The bug is responsible for threatening 900-million ash trees in the state. Gillibrand is a member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrician, and Forestry Committee.

The emerald ash borer was first reported in New York State in 2009. It is a native of China, and has recently spread to Delaware and Otsego counties after traveling from Detroit and killing millions of ash trees in the midwest. It has infested 19 states.

Campers and firewood users are strongly encouraged not to bring firewood from other places to their camps and wood stoves.
