I have participated in this event with my kids when they were younger and they loved it. Trout Unlimited goes above and beyond with this free event by providing fishing equipment and bait to any child who doesn't have their own. The best part is, kids get to KEEP the fishing rod and reel after the derby. Along with that The Golden Guernsey in Oneonta has graciously donated free ice cream cone coupons that will go to each kid who participates and can be used after the Derby.

The Derby kicks off at 11:00 a.m. this Sunday and kids need to be registered to participate so make sure you check your kids in (ages 5 to 16) on site before 11:00. The event wraps up at 2:00 p.m. and keep in mind that adults are welcome to fish along with their kids.

Oneonta Parks and Recreation says that restrooms in the building next to Hodges Pond will NOT be available for use since the building is undergoing renovations.
