The U.S. Labor Department released job hiring figures for December on Friday, stating that the nation added 155,000 jobs in the final month of 2012.

Unemployment, however, remained steady at 7.8 percent nationally.

The private sector dominated the job growth, adding 168,000 jobs. Government employers cut 13,000 jobs. The increases came from health care, food service and construction jobs.

The nation added 1.84 million jobs in 2012. December, however, was the seventh-best month for job growth in 2012. January was the highest with over 250,000 jobs added.
