Every Labor Day weekend, tens of thousands of people head to Prairie du Sac for the Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throwing Contest and Festival.  This is the thirty-eighth annual celebration.  Yes, people compete to see who can flop the plop the furthest.  This year however, there is a cow chip shortage.

The cow count hasn't gone down but the drought has caused the cow chips to be too dry and brittle.  Normally, about one thousand cow patties are used at the festival but this year only five hundred usable patties were collected.  The record toss is 248 feet.  This year's festival theme is "Pirates of the Cowwibean" August 31 and Sept 1.
