Cilla Black, 1960s British Hit Maker, Dies at 72
Cilla Black, the British singer who invaded America with the British Invasion of the early 1960s, has died at the age of 72. Her worldwide, million-selling hit was "You're My World."
In 1964 the song reached #1 in 20 different countries and made her an international sensation. When the news of the death of Cilla Black was announced, former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr issued a joint statement calling her a "dear friend and a national treasure." Black had recorded her signature hit at the Beatles Apple Studios in London.
Many years later, Cilla Black was invited to perform a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. She closed the show performing her hit song. Take a look at this amazing video. Even though she was no longer a "young, hip London swinger," she nails it and knocks it out of the park.
R.I.P. Cilla Black.
