Saturday at noon area residents will gather in front of Chenango County courthouse in Norwich to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the historic building.

The Oxford brass band will play the national anthem and “God Bless America”, veterans will be honored and the top judges in New York State will speak.

The hon. Judge Howard Sullivan announced that following the ceremony, the courthouse will be open for tours and historic exhibits.

He added that many former presidents and senators have spoken from the courthouse steps, including both Teddy and Franklin D. Roosevelt, Bobby Kennedy, and George Pataki.

During World War I and World War II troops going to war from Chenango County would leave from the courthouse steps.

The ceremony is in front of the courthouse steps in West Side Park in downtown Norwich. Souvenirs will also be available for purchase.
