The Chenango County Board of Supervisors has approved a tentative budget for 2013. Board chairman Bill Crane says the hard work of employees, department heads, standing committees and the finance committee resulted in a good budget.

"This budget complies with the recently enacted tax cap and keep the county progressing in its various programs," Crane said. "We're actually going to increase the amount of road paving that we do in the next year, trying to get back on a more rapid resurfacing schedule."

Crane added the budget will allow the county to remain debt free next year, holding spending at 2.46 percent, although the average tax rate would increase by $0.30 over last year. It is still lower than it was in 2011.

The tentative budget awaits a vote Nov. 6.
