First Ever Girl Scout Operated Camp for LGBTQ+ Youth in Deposit Sells Out
Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways (GSNYPENN) is doing something historical during "Pride Month" and has just announced that the organization will be running a pilot program: a weeklong summer camp for youth 12 - 18 years old who identify under the LGBTQ+ umbrella.
It's called "Camp Beyond Binary" and will be operated by Girl Scouts of NYPENN which covers a large territory, serving youth in 24 counties in New York State and two counties in Pennsylvania.
Considering that as an organization the Girl Scouts of America "embraces core values of justice, empathy, leadership, transformation, and belonging", Camp Beyond Binary falls right in line with the organization's mission to support youth.
This new camp will have its premiere run at Camp Amahami in Delaware County (just north of Deposit) from August 7 through 12. Camp Beyond Binary is meant to be an affordable camp option for LGBTQ+, something that was sorely lacking in the GSNYPenn district. Considering that the camp registration for that week is already full for this August and no more registrations can be taken, it seems poised for great success.
National Grid supported this LGBTQ+ by making a $20,000 donation and also donated camp supplies, clothing, and personal care items that will be utilized at this camp.
