Bassett Healthcare President Impresses Board, Gets Early Contract Extension
The Bassett Healthcare Network (BHN) Board of Directors has such confidence in Bassett's President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Tommy Ibrahim who has held the position since July 13, 2020, that his contract has been extended much earlier than usual to 2029.
According to a BHN, Dr. Ibrahim's two years at the helm have been "remarkably successful" during a very challenging time in the world of healthcare, facing challenges that have never been seen before. Dr. Ibrahim began his position at BHN at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Talk about a rough start, but the BHN Board feels that Dr. Ibrahim has exceeded their expectations.
Before coming to Cooperstown, Dr. Ibrahim was the Executive Vice President, Chief Physician Executive for INTEGRIS which is based in Oklahoma. The significance of that is that INTEGRIS is ranked as one of the top 25 health care systems in the nation and it would seem that Dr. Ibrahim's credentials are paying off for Bassett in terms of his "strategic vision, work ethic, and calm resolve" in the words of Board of Directors Chair, Doug Hastings who is a national expert in health care policy and law.
Hastings says that Dr. Ibrahim has initiatives for the growth and financial stability of BHN, along with a desire to improve patient care and community well-being that the Board would to see move forward and the continuation of his contract reflects their confidence in him as a leader.
Dr. Ibrahim’s most notable achievements have been in the areas of improving patient access to affordable quality care with E-Visits, online access to healthcare, restructuring executive leadership, positioning BHN much better financially, investing $40M in retaining their workforce, adopting a new system-wide management system, and adopting new technology from Optum to modernize information systems among many other achievements.
How early did the Board approve extending Dr. Ibrahim's contract? It was set to expire in December of 2024 so that gives you a measure of the confidence that the Board has in what Dr. Ibrahim can bring to BHN moving forward.
This weekend, Dr. Tommy Ibrahim will be one of our featured guests on our community affairs program, "This Week in Central New York". Check this website to see when the show runs on your favorite Townsquare Media station.
