A longtime New York State Senator who helped lead its Republican majority before his conviction last year for lying to the FBI has died at the age of 63. Tom Libous passed away Tuesday after a prolonged battle with cancer. State Senator Jim Seward commented on the passing of his colleague saying “As senators from neighboring districts, Senator Libous [Tom] and I worked together on a regular basis to address the shared needs of our constituents. Even while dealing with serious health problems of his own, Tom continued to work tirelessly, both in Albany and at home, to help those he represented. Senator Libous was a political giant in many ways, his positive influence was felt far and wide, and he was a capable advocate for the Southern Tier. My sympathies to his family, friends, and the entire Southern Tier.”
