Peter Wlasiuk, the man convicted of murdering his wife and dumping her body in Guilford Lake in 2002, was sentenced to 25 years-to-life in prison today at the Chenango County Courthouse.

According to reports in The Evening Sun, Wlasiuk was defiant during the sentencing and claimed that he could not receive a fair trial in the county.

Wlasiuk was initially arrested in 2002 for the murder of Patricia Wlasiuk. He claimed that she had swerved to avoid a deer and crashed the vehicle in Guilford Lake.

Police countered, citing its own investigation, that Wlasiuk killed his wife at their home and drove her body to dispose in the lake, staging it as an accident.

The Evening Sun reports that Wlasiuk plans to appeal the sentence.
