Opportunities for Otsego Receives $10,000 Grant
Opportunities for Otsego is one of six area organizations that has been designated by state senator James Seward to receive a one-time domestic violence grant.
The $10,000 special legislative grant will assist Opportunities for Otsego’s purchase critical resources for victims accessing emergency domestic violence shelter services provided through OFO’s violence intervention program.
Senator Seward has been a longtime supporter of the violence intervention program and fully understands what is at stake when someone flees a violent relationship.
“When women decide to leave violent relationships, they often must leave their homes without anything including clothing and essential supplies for themselves and their children,” Seward said.
OFO CEO Dan Maskin is also pleased and grateful for receiving the grant that will help OFO continue to be a place of refuge for victims of domestic violence.
“These resources will go a long way for victims as they transition to a life that is free from violence,” he said.
Other organizations receiving the same $10,000 grant are: The Catholic Charities of Herkimer County, YWCA of Cortland, and Catholic Charities of Schoharie County.
$5,000 grants will be awarded to Chenango County Catholic Charities and the Advocacy Center of Tompkins County.
