Do you ever get ready for bed and then you just feel that sick achy feeling throughout your body coming on? Add to that a headache and throat ache? It's that feeling when you just know you’re going to be sick tomorrow. It’s the worst because most of the time you feel powerless against it and just accept the fact that you might be calling out of work soon.  However, there are actions you can take to help prevent those germs from turning into something much worse. Below are a few steps that I use when I feel like I'm coming down with something.

1.       Tea with honey

This is always my go-to when I feel any slight pain in my throat. The hot tea has an almost instant soothing relief for sore throats. Paired with honey, it is a great mix to help alleviate the pain. This shouldn’t replace a doctor, however. If throat pain continues, head over to the doctor for a strep test.

2.       Sleep

Make sure you are getting enough hours of sleep each night. Everyone is so busy in life that we forget to give our body the rest it needs. I know that I’ve definitely felt like I was getting sick just from not sleeping enough. When you sleep, your body has a better chance of fighting off the sickness!

3.       Drink lots of water

I remember growing up, my mom always telling me to drink lots of water when I wasn’t feeling well. Moms are always right, right? Your body may be reacting to being dehydrated, so make sure you’re constantly drinking water throughout the entire day.

4.       Gargle with salt water

This is one that my Nana would tell me (and still tells me) to do when my throat hurts. You know how if you get a cut at the beach, it helps to rinse it off in the ocean? Same idea here. The salt helps lower inflammation and soothes that annoying sore throat.

5.       Chicken soup

Because chicken soup helps everyone feel better!

These steps are not meant to replace a doctor. If you are feeling truly sick, past the point of home remedies, go to the doctor right away! If you need to call out of work, do so, because you don’t want those germs spreading.
