The deadline to challenge local property assessments in New York is coming up soon. State tax officials say the so-called grievance day deadline is May 24 in most communities. Property owners who believe the market value listed on their local assessment roll is significantly higher than it should be have until grievance day to file for a review. It's generally too late to file a grievance once the tax bill arrives. Grievance forms and instructions are available at tax.ny.gov.
